Children’s Book Week is the “longest-running literacy initiative in the country. Each year, books for young people and the joy of reading are feted for a full week with author and illustrator appearances, storytelling, parties, and other book-related events at schools, libraries, bookstores, museums, and homes from coast to coast!”

My own Provo City Library was a chosen host for the event, and over 1,100 people showed up to see Judy Schachner, author of the best-selling Skippyjon Jones series, as well as a slew of puppet shows, presentations, free books, games, authors, illustrators, and giveaways! The library invited me to join illustrators Guy Frances, Will Terry, Jake Parker, and Nate Hale, to draw pictures, pass out comics, and enjoy the festivities – which is exactly what I did.

Here are some of the kids who stopped by and requested drawings (even after the event was over!):

Not only was Skippyjon Jones himself making new friends on the 2nd and 3rd floors of the library, but the Lunch Lady from the Lunch Lady comics took precious time away from battling cyborgs, field trips, and the bake sale bandit to say hi. She even asked for a drawing of my character, Harold, from Upside Down: A Vampire Tale!

A big THANKS to friends old and new for coming out–I had a blast. See you next year at the Children’s Book Festival!
