PAUL SIMON’S GUITARIST INVENTS HIS OWN INSTRUMENTS

Mark Stewart has been playing the guitar, saxophone, cello and percussion in Paul Simon’s backup band since 1998. Like most of us, Mark has seen a fork nearly every day of his life, but never realized its musical potential until he found one in the garbage. Check out his Chaludeu (“the hermaphrodite of musical instruments”), a thumb piano made from found objects, and other musical inventions.
“These instruments don’t inherit a system of order. People who play these tend to get right to the finger-painting of sound.”
